Its 8.00 p.m. and I am at home, surfing the channels as I wait for hubby. The remote is not the friend it used to be. Every channel is trying to grab a piece of the World Cup. No matter how many channels I switch, I always get a commercial. M.S.Dhoni is the one I curse the most coz he keeps appearing in all these advertisements. Actually all the cricketers get a mouthful of name-calling from me.

I dont hate cricket!
Its just that I dont enjoy watching it as much as I enjoy the other stuff on TV. I ask you, dear readers, what is so interesting about 11 sweaty men, standing around the field, scratching their crotches???

Anyway, the evening progresses. Hubby dear is home and after exchanging pleasantries (he seems to be making an effort to do that), he is right there in front of the TV, watching the wretched World cup!!! As I lay out the dinner, I can hear him cheering and swearing.and he can hear me lamenting! Oh, and by the way, he wants his dinner right there, in front of the TV.

So, what did I do to deserve this?
- Why is the World Cup such a big deal? We are not even in great form!
- Why did Sab TV have to take Left right Left off the air and telecast the World Cup?
- Why does my husband have to watch every single match?

Yes, I hate it when I am trying to make conversation with a couch potato glued to the cricket on the screen. I wish things were different. I wish cricket were not such frenzy in this country. The first match against Bangladesh leaves the Indian fans high and dry. But the second match against Bermuda gives us a world record and reason to cheer.

But is it really a reason worth cheering? I dont think India made the record because we were playing well. Its just that we were playing opposite a new team that played much worse. The Bermudans seemed listless and cute in a way. Yes, I do watch out for cute guys on the field and amongst the spectators. What else is there to do, when my husband wont let me have the remote?
