Who doesn’t want to have baby soft lips? But with the approaching dry season, how can you maintain crack-free, soft and beautifully smooth lips?

Your lips need your care and attention, all the time! Even the slightest stretchy feeling on your lips must not be ignored.

The best way to maintain soft, pink lips is to keep a lip balm, baby or olive oil with you at all times and keep applying it at regular intervals (like, every half an hour). It is not necessary that you wait for the cracky sensation on your lips to apply the oils. As in all situations, even here, prevention is always better than cure!

To make lipstick glide on more evenly, exfoliate regularly. Take a clean, dry toothbrush with very soft bristles and rub a bit of Vaseline onto the bristles. Then, gently brush your lips for several seconds to smooth away the dry flakes and rough spots.

Your lips need conditioning too! Slather on a lip balm full of moisturizing emollients like beeswax or glycerine, as well as good-for-you vitamins like the antioxidants C and E. They have a very long lasting softening effect.

While matte shades of lip colour tend to have more pigment and fewer moisturizing ingredients (that's what makes them last long), whereas, the glossy ones actually help your lips retain moisture! This does not mean that you will have to sacrifice on the cool matte effects. Simply keep alternating your matte and glossy lipsticks from time to time.

Protect your lips from the sun! Because lips have a minimal amount of melanin, they have no natural defence against the sun. So, when the rays cannot be avoided, do not forget to apply an SPF 15 lip balm under your lipstick and reapply it frequently during a long day.

And finally, get rid of major lip mistakes if you really want to maintain baby-soft lips like smoking or licking your lips frequently, also as your saliva tends to take away the moisturiser from your lips as it evaporates.
