As we discussed in our previous article in the series, these are the traits of a “good employee”. It is possible that you may have some/most of these traits and yet not be considered a “Good Employee” by your employer. Perhaps, you are doing something that is offsetting these good traits in you!

Shyama and Radhika, both passed out of Management college in the same year. As fate would have it, they both joined “Creative Content” as executives after finishing graduation. Today, Shyama is a Manager, while Radhika is still stuck at Executive level. While Shyama is seen as a responsible performer, Radhika is constantly asked to improve performance. Radhika is neither lazy nor stupid. Then why this difference in their careers?

Shanti has worked hard to make a career for herself. She works as a “Cluster Manager - Ops” for the Baroda cluster in a leading Life Insurance company. But Shanti has held this position for the last three years. She was sure that she would get promoted to the “Regional Manager” position last year. But the guy from the Ahmedabad cluster got promoted instead. This year has been no different! Shanti is regarded as a dedicated and hard working employee by everyone in the organization. But she keeps getting overlooked when promotions are handed out!
