Gone are the days when political figures wore colourless, figureless outfits to prove their sincerity and dedication to the nation. The public figures of today know there are more ways to show their ‘service for the nation’ intensions than wearing khaki overalls.
Priyanka Gandhi, daughter of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister, Late Mr. Rajeev Gandhi might not be a national leader, but she surely is a public figure. So, what she does, matters to the political India.
On Tuesday, the Judgement Day for UPA, though the entire media’s focus was on the members of the parliament. Yet, there was one lady that was more than successful in deflecting this focus! Why else will the a leading national newspaper have the nerve to give a half page news story on Priyanka Gandhi’s ‘fashion statement’, stealing the limelight from Manmohan Singh’s triumph?
It was clear by the way she was dressed and carried herself on the floor that she has walked out of her ‘simple’ image and stepped into a more stylish and fashionable one. She drew all the cameras to herself as she entered the house wearing a half-sleeved white blouse and black trousers!
Priyanka is not the first political figure to reverse the rules of political dressing. The Rajput lady who is heading the desert state has also had her own way in dressing. Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje almost represents Rajasthan in her wardrobe, with vibrant splashes of colours and loud use of accessories: So magnetic is her style that it has started a new trend in the state amongst women.
So, while the men in the family glued on to the TV to find fresh reasons to criticize the government, women caught on the opportunity to take some fashion tips from Raje!
And no matter what the critics many have to say about these developments, it’s the women of the country who are bringing about the trend reversals in India that no body had dared to do before!
