Shootout At Lokhandwala

Shootout at Lokhandwala was just like wot we expected. Hard-hitting, gory and basically just some goons shooting everyone and finally getting shot themselves.

The movie (which is actually based on the rise and downfall of Maya Dolas) claims to be inspired by 'True Rumours'. These people certainly have a sense of humour. All the goondas are looking cool, especially Maya himself (played by Viveik Oberoi) and Bua(Tusshar Kapoor). Shabbir Ahluwalia, one of Ekta's proteges also does a good job. He anyways looks like a pucca mavali. No hard work required here.

Amitabh Bachchan plays the defence lawyer of the ATS (Anti Terrorism Squad) officers Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty and Arbaaz Khan. The officers are given a clean chit in the court. The defence lawyer puts up an impressive defence. All he says is "I don't want to put up any statements or any witnesses. No defence hearing. I just want to ask one question. If a man is standing outside your house with a gun in his hand, who would you want him to be? Maya or ACP Ali?" This one question decides the case in the favour of ali (Sanjay) and his team.

Particularly gory were the last couple of scenes of the shootout. Viveik's death is very gory. The way policemen pull out tusshar's body from the building is another gory scene. Towards the end they show policemen picking up bodies of the gangsters and loading them in a vehicle. Thats one more. Even the begining of the movie shows a lot of blood and gore.

Don't watch this movie if you are going on a date.

The movie does raise some interesting doubts about the involvement of Dawood in the shootout. He may have given the orders to wipe out the Maya Dolas gang. This angle is left unexplored though.

What I Hate About Such Movies: These movies claim to show the hard reality of life. But what they actually do is glorify the crimes. They show these gangsters as very stylish and glamorous people, who young minds can perceive as role models. Perhaps we may not be so influenced by the style and glamour of Maya and his gang. But for a poor young lad who watches the movie, Maya may be an inspiration. The free and never ending booze along with hot bar dancers, loads of cash and power: Won't the promise of all this be too much to refuse?
