Sense & Censoring Ability!

Does the Indian Censor Board think that only listening has all the undesirable effects on the masses of India and not watching?

No movie today, be it mainstream or parallel, is complete without at least one bed scene, a few numbers that show scantly dressed women hovering over a man and one item number!

The Censor Board, claiming to ‘change with the times’ and ‘adapting to the needs of the modern world’ has let go of most of such scenes.

But in turn, it has decided to censor words… and words like Condom! This is where the Board has utilised its power in the movie Hello, on pronouncing something that actually helps our country avert diseases and control population!

So, condom, to them, is obscene! If we are not wrong, isn’t it something that the Government itself is trying to propagate the use of? Isn’t it something, people are actually being encouraged not to shy away from?

And for once even if we consider the word a taboo, then why are all those bed scenes and obscene women allowed onscreen unashamedly?

The prime responsibility of our Censor Board is to ensure that films, television and advertisements don‘t end up conveying undesirable messages to the society. So, does the Board consider condoms ‘undesirable’? If so, our Government should certainly do something about the Central Board of Film Certification being an autonomous body!

Nevertheless, the word has been successfully beeped out and we cannot do much about it except for hoping that the youth of our country does not get inspired by this censor and rule out the protective means from their lives!
