Prashant apparently got many votes from the Nepali community. Few people know that there was a time in history when Nepal had occupied Darjeeling and a few other places in Sikkim, Kumaon and Garhwal. These places were restored to India after Nepal lost them to the British East India Company. Ever since then, the Nepalis have hoped to win back the territories it had annexed many years back. Prashants win in the Indian Idol is a symbolic victory for Nepal over its friendly neighbour.
