He never came. Yet he conquered.
This was the story at the Filmfare Awards 2008, where Aamir Khan was conspicuous by absence. Everybody knows what a low opinion Aamir Khan has of most of the Awards related to the film industry. He never attends any Awards Function or accepts any award. The only two exceptions he makes are the National Awards and, of course, the Oscars. He was missed at the Filmfare Awards this year, especially considering the huge accolades his directorial venture Taare Zameen Par won there.
Now the rest of the story is that Aamir will not be attending the upcoming IIFA Awards either, quite obviously. But what is bugging IIFA is that Aamir has refused to send the clips of his Taare Zameen Par for IIFA. This is especially considered rude as Mr. Amitabh Bachchan is the Brand Ambassador of the IIFA.
The inside scoop on this is that Mr. Aamir Khan and Mr. Amitabh Bachchan have been on loggerheads for quite a few years now. Aamir Khan apparently, did not consider Black worthy of all the critical acclaim it won. His criticism got blown out of proportions and Mr. Bachchan did not take it well. Mr. Bachchan retaliated with "It must have gone over his head." Aamir Khan tried to bridge the gap by asking Mr. Bachchan for an appointment so he could explain. But the meeting never materialized and the score remains unsettled till date.
Is this one of the reasons Aamir is refusing to send the clips of his movie to IIFA? Perhaps not. But we would like the two actors to resolve their differences and move on. Wouldn't it be amazing to see these two great actors work together?
