Whether you are taking a foreign trip or exploring your own country… travelling to any new place brings with it a change of weather, water, food… and thus bringing a risk to your good health! Travelling also brings you in contact with things that your body isn't used to. Amongst the various things that you take care of while travelling, from what to carry to where to stay, don’t ignore your health.
It’s even more important because a little bad health can take away the entire fun from the holiday!
First and foremost, keep your stress level in check! Excitement is good, over excitement and over exertion is not. Only be as adventurous as your body can handle.
The three most common travelling ails are: severe cold, altitude sickness and diarrhoea.
Though cold and cough may not sound serious, on a vacation it interferes in all your plans! The best way is to pack a medical kit when you move out.
Change of altitude may cause nausea as it takes time for your body to adjust to quick change of altitude. The best prevention for altitude sickness is to gradually increase your altitude with frequent halts. There are certain drugs that take care of this problem, but it is advisable to consult your doctor if you have suffered from such a problem in the past.
Change in water and food causes diarrhoea, which may actually turn out to be a very serious problem! It may happen to any person any time, including the most frequent traveller. This is because every place has a different environment and it keeps changing. Keep a medicine with you all the time and make it a point to drink only distilled water on your way.
There is another problem that you may face while travelling across regions: the Jet Lag. If you're travelling from west to east, try to stay out of the sun until the day after your arrival. If you're flying from east to west, go for a brisk walk as soon as possible after you arrive! This will mellow down the effect of the time transformation.
Take good care of your health on a trip… you don’t want to miss your home on a beautiful holiday, do you?
