Remember the tall dark and handsome hero from the Mills & Boon romances? The books that drove you crazy with neat little descriptions of mysterious guys and damsels in distress!
As teenagers, most of us have lived on an MB enriched diet, right? There comes a point in every girl’s life when romantic fiction drives the world and nothing else exists. That’s when most girls are found clinging to their Mills & Boon’s. And now, we- the women of India, have another reason to cheer. Now we can read Mills & Boon novels written and published in India, hopefully with Indian characters.
Donna Hayes, the CEO of Harlequin Mills & Boon was in India recently, to launch the Harlequin Mills & Boon (India). The Harlequin Enterprises want to cash in on the India story. Not only will they be publishing for the Indian women, they will also be hiring some writing talent from India. And if you think you’ve got the flair for writing mushy romances, just wait till the next year. That’s when the M&B honchos plan to launch a short story writing contest in India and the winners will be hired as writers. Ain’t that a cool opportunity?
As of now, Mills & Boon novels are written by a 1300 strong workforce. They have a presence in 109 countries and publish books in 26 languages. How about adding Hindi to those languages, Ms. Donna Hayes?
So if you have been lamenting that India guys are not gallant or ravishing or tall-dark-and-handsome, Harlequin Enterprises are all set to change that. Even if our men learn nothing from our M&B’s, we will at least have some desi M&B heroes!!!!
