The world is running out of energy! Can we do our bit to save it?

Recently I came across this website www. blackle.com. Its an energy saving website. It is a web search engine just like Google. The site has a tie up with Google and all its searches are fuelled by www.google.com. So, instead of using Goggle, if you use Blackle, you will get the same results, and save a good amount of energy!

How does it save energy?

The website is BLACK! Any given monitor requires more energy to display lighter colours than the darker ones. And black uses the least amount of energy.

The Idea…

Blackle was created by Heap Media to remind us all of the need to take small steps in our everyday lives to save energy.

In January 2007 a blog post titled Black Google Would Save 750 Megawatt-hours a Year proposed the theory that a black version of the Google search engine would save a fair bit of energy due to the popularity of the search engine. The blog initiated this project!

All you need to do you save your bit is set Blackle as your home page. This way every time you load your Internet browser you will save a little bit of energy. Remember every bit counts! You will also be reminded about the need to save energy each time you see the Blackle page!
