Gone are the days when big Bollywood stars refused to even consider small roles in a movie… leave alone acting in it!
Now the trend is for pretty women to awe the audience with their latka jhatkas in item numbers while the handsome men suddenly appear from nowhere in the movie, woo the audience and disappear into thin air!
Remember how Abhishek Bachchan came and went in big bock busters like Hum Tum, Salam Namaste and Lage Raho Munna Bhai? His wife is also not far behind in catching up with the latest trend with her sizzling item numbers in movies like Shakti and Bunti aur Babli!
In fact, it seems the trend of bringing not just one but multiple star studded special appearances in a movie has become a one-stop funda to make a hit! When Hey Baby took nine sexy ladies to make the big bang, Om Shanti Om took the entire industry for its special appearance… all this for a single song!
But in his last flick, Abhishek ended up confusing the audience! Was it a role, was it a special appearance, or was he really starting a new trend in Bollywood? A big star doing a small role in a big banner move… Laga Chunri Mein Daag!
Though the film promotions cleverly used Abhishek’s role in its trailers, portraying the movie as an Abhishek Bachchan starrer, he appears on the screen for only about 25-27 minutes! And all this including two songs!
What is more interesting is the reason for him to take up this na idhar ka na udhar ka role. Now that the movie has lost all hopes at the box office, he is giving justifications for being a small part of a big, but flop movie! He says that even though he was not convinced about the commercial viability of the movie, he did the movie at the request of his dear friend Aditya Chopra.
So was Mr. Aditya trying to add more star value to his movie? Even the previous Rani Mukharjee-oriented movie Black had another star value to it – Amitabh Bachchan! So, in this one, Aditya tried his luck with the junior Bachchan! After all he couldn’t have given his dosti ka vasta to Amit uncle!
Oh Abhishek! Hume accha lagta agar tum kehte ki you took up the insignificant role because you were bold enough to stand up for the cause of a woman!
