How do you design your CV if you have Gaps in your work history?
The last thing you should do is hide them!
You may feel these gaps may reflect a negative side of you and may discourage them to call you. On the contrary, if they discover that you are hiding career gaps, it may reflect on your deceptive personality!
The way out…
Reason out
When you have legitimate or even near legitimate reasons for your work gap, explain it to them. If you are convinced on the reasoning, you can convince them too!
Travelling
You could say that you were travelling, or had joined Art of Living or some workshop. Here, too, don’t say something you do not know anything about… they might ask you questions on your experience!
Self Development
Think of what have you been doing in those “gap” days? You might have developed a professional skill. Even if it is not directly related to your work, it is worth mentioning. Many recruiters will take interest in your hobbies and interests outside work.
Gaps due to marriage or maternity are completely acceptable in all organisations. Being a woman, you have the advantage of taking aid of maternity leave period.
Actually, there is nothing wrong in taking a break from your work. In today’s competitive world, many people take a break to find time for them self or before switching a profession. The key is to always show what you did with your time, and prove that it was worthwhile!
