“Oh my God! Finally he’s plucked up enough courage to ask me out, and I have nothing to wear! Kya pehnu? Kuch samajh nahi aa raha. I want to look smart and feminine without looking cheap. I want his eyes to never leave me while we are together, but I have no clue about what I should wear.”
Is this what you go through before your first date with any guy? Don’t worry yaar! We’ve all been there at some or other point in our lives. First dates are a lot of fun, everybody knows that. The romance is fresh in the air and you have eyes for nobody but each other. But on the other hand, first dates can also be very stressful at times. Most people worry about things like clothing, date activity, proximity issues etc before their first dates. But to heck with worrying! We, at Memsaab, will try to make your first dates as tension-free and enjoyable as possible.
There are no rules about what should be worn on first dates. Basically, it’s all common sense. You obviously want to look your best. But you don’t want to come across as a slut, right? So all you need to learn is to balance good looks with decency and voila! Here are some basic pointers you need to remember…
• Showing too much cleavage on a first date is certainly not a good idea.
• There’s no need to bring out the hippy in you on a first date. This is a day to show yourself in the best light. Who knows how much can he digest!
• Your outfit should be clean, neat and properly ironed.
• In terms of accessories, less is more. So try to not look as if you are buried under a pile of metal or plastic! Whatever accessories you wear should match with your outfit.
• Very body hugging or revealing clothes show you in a slutty and bad light. So stick with non-sexy, yet flattering clothes.
• If you know where you are going, dress accordingly. This means that do not wear a ruffled skirt with open toed sandals if you are going to dine at a classy place. Similary, a business suit is not really the right dress for any date, more so if you are going to catch a movie.
• Comfort is very important. If you keep on fidgeting or adjusting your dress, you will probably not be able to relax and enjoy.
• Do not put on too much face paint coz men do notice it! Also, trying a new hairstyle on your first date could be risky. Go for a haircut only if you have a few days before the D-Day.
