So you thought it was only the ladies who tried on twenty dresses before finalizing one? You got another think coming there, people! Men love to dress up as much as we do. And they also want to look their best when taking a girl out on a date. They are lousy at times about neatness and other stuff. But they tend to show this side of their personality after settling down in a relationship. For the first few dates (especially the very first date), they try to show themselves in the best possible light. And why shouldn’t they? It’s human nature yaar!

So if you are a guy going on a first date with a girl, here are some tips that could help you prepare better for the big event…

• Stick with what you have in your wardrobe. Buying a new outfit for a first date can be risky business. You may find out that the new clothes do not fit properly. You will also send out the impression of “trying too hard”.

• Be presentable in clothes that fit, are clean, neat and properly ironed.

• No matter how much you have paid for those “rumpled, holed, torn, frayed, sprayed, bleached or ripped” jeans, do not wear them to a first date. Such attire screams for attention and can be unsightly for some people. So if you are wearing jeans, stick with any solid dark colored comfortable pair that you may have.

• Remember to tuck in your shirt. A shirt halfway in and halfway out doesn’t really go down too well with women, no matter how much your ‘guy’ friends admire it!

• While choosing a shirt, try to be casual without being too loud. Stripes are so common that you will not be able to stand out in a crowd. So leave those behind. How about a polo-necked shirt? Tees are a good idea as long as they are not shimmering in silver/gold.

• Select your shoes with care coz they say a lot about you. If you are wearing jeans or casual pants, please do not wear work shoes! That’s one of the biggest fashion fiascos you could make. Open sandals or casual shoes go well with jeans. Make sure they are neat and clean before you wear them.

• If you are going to a really fancy restaurant, you might want to consider wearing formals.

• Take off your sunglasses for her. No matter how expensive they are, they will spoil thing for you. Don’t you want some eye-contact? Don’t let her think that you have something to hide behind those shades.

• Another golden rule is to have neat hair that is well trimmed and not oiled. Don’t forget to trim your nails too.
