Handling Twins

Bringing up a baby is no child’s play; however ‘common’ the act may seem to be. Every baby is a bundle of needs and responsibilities!

And what if the bundle doubles up? Yes, today we are talking about coping up with twins!

Handling twins is like juggling 24 hours a day! Siblings usually compliment each other. While the elder takes care of the younger (or at least trying to), the younger keeps the other one busy and entertained (which kids demand all the time!). But, this is not the case with twins. As they are of the same age, they have the same needs and demand the same amount of attention.

Whether you, yourself are a mother of twins or you know someone who has or is expecting multiples, the following tips can provide great help.

While, you love both of both equally, from the bottom of your heart, nursing twins can take a toll on your physical health and mental peace!

Buck up, it’s a Double Shift!

Have you ever worked while you were studying in college, or done two courses at a time? It is almost the same here, only it is not out of choice. So, you might have to put in little overtime!

Prepare your home for twins
Before the babies arrive, get your room ready for them. Get enough clothes (so that you don’t run out of them even if they dirty it several times a day), bottles, cradles and other baby equipment. Keep them at comfortable places in the room. This will help you avoid mess and unnecessary tensions of “arranging things” after you become the mother-of-two!

Apart from setting up things, you also need to ‘remove’ many things! Things that may catch the naughty kids’ attention… showpieces, table lamps, glass objects etc. Get them out of reach and possibly, out of sight of the babies!

And don’t forget to arrange a place (in the cradle, on the bed or on the couch) where the babies can be left alone for short spans of time, while you complete important chores.

Get Help
A maid may not be the best care for your babies, but she will surely be a great help to you! All the chores that you will ignore due to your ‘overtime’ can be attended to by your domestic help.

Try finding a 24-hour help. Because babies often decide to wake up when the world is sleeping!

Grab Rest
The first few months will be very tiring as you juggle your time around the two babies. Therefore, don’t wait for your ‘time to rest’. Just sit or lie down whenever you get time, wherever, and try to grab some sleep!

Share your responsibility
When you have twins, your husband might have to become a mother when need be. Bottle-feeding babies, changing diapers, or playing with them are not impossible tasks for the other sex! Actually, this is what you need to convince him about!
