Grapevine, Not So Grave!

An ancient proverb says, ”If a woman speaks two words, take one and leave the other".

Gossip, the second oldest profession for women, may be defined as idle speculation of information or opinions of uncertain sources. It starts off as a secret to be told to just one person, but soon takes form of a boiling topic for discussion!

Gossip has traditionally been associated with housewives for whom it is a good pastime. But today it is an important part of every woman's life, isn't it? We talk of who's who, and about who's whose, of our bosses' and colleagues', and neighbours' and friends' and everyone else who shares the tiniest of space in our memory!

We also know that alcohol fuels gossip. As walls have ears, wine has a mouth!
Another famous proverb says "gossip of two women will destroy two houses".

But, like every thing else, gossip has its good side too. The greatest thing about it is its access and penetration - it is within everyone's reach. It is undoubtedly the most interesting form of speech, and the ultimate escape from everyday stress and the life's monotony. It also has a great power to relieve the load off our chests.

Management Gurus are seriously working on 'grapevine communication' as a very influential interpersonal communication tool. You know why? It is because you tend to believe gossip more than the office circular. It is mobile, has emotions, and requires no pressing of buttons. They believe that if intelligently handled, this word-of-mouth link could do wonders!

It will relieve the organizations from handling forced communications and maintaining formal channels. This in turn will put the employees at rest and foster a friendlier and more comfortable environment at the workplaces, enhancing productivity of employers and employees.

So, sack all those people that blame you for gossiping around and make sure that from now on all gossips that you make or pass are friendlier, which tickle sensations, not hurts sensibility.
