In times when competition translates into rivalry leading to cold wars between top brands, there’s one brand that is genuinely happy to help!
On Friday, Vodafone, the closest competitor of Airtel in India helped its competitor which is actually leading in India!
This out of the ordinary story goes like this: on Friday, July 18, a major fire broke off in Airtel’s Mumbai network and destroyed some of its crucial switches. This would have cut off services to its subscribers for over 12 hours, lest Vodafone hadn’t stepped in to help! So, while Airtel repaired its switched, Vodafone was quite happy helping its rival’s customers!
This was not just an unusual alliance, but an example set for all those that resort to any unfair means to beat competition. Remember the cola war? The friction between the two leading brands was so much that they actually made fun of their rivals instead of promoting their own stuff!
But Vodafone’s is one unique story that has a moral for everyone: for big brands and mortal souls alike: ‘your good deeds come back to you’.
And what better way can there be to make a place in the heart of the people? Now Vodafone stands as a hero in front of the idol-seeking people of India, who easily get impressed by helpful and sacrificing images on the silver screen!
Vodafone’s spirit can also be judged by the fact that when the brand was re-launched in India (from hutch to Vodafone), the new ‘happy to help’ tagline wasn’t immediately introduced. Not because the company’s creative team conceived the idea later, but because the company’s technical team didn’t want it before an efficient helpline network was actually in place!
Vodafone has certainly proved that its slogan is not just a tagline; it’s a promise it has vowed to live up to!
