Shruti has always had a tendency to gain weight. She has tried everything from jogging, yoga, dieting, crash dieting etc, but all she has managed is to control her weight from increasing any further. She wonders if she’ll ever lose weight! Last month, Shruti saw an advertisement on the television that inspired her to try the product. The advertisement showcased a lovely model rubbing an “anti-cellulite” cream on her awesome legs. The ad seemed to be saying that Shruti could also get those legs if she gave the cream a try.

So Shruti bought the cream and tried it for one whole month, hoping to have those lovely shapely legs appear magically. But does magic really happen in regular people’s lives? So today Shruti is completely disillusioned and tells everyone that “Anti-cellulite creams do not work!”

What are these anti-cellulite treatments? Do they work? How do they work? Who can use them? To what extent can they help you? These are some questions that most people seek answers to. Memsaab brings you useful information about anti-cellulite creams, hoping that this will help you in deciding whether or not to use them.

What Is Anti-Cellulite Treatment?

Cellulite is a kind of fat in our body. It is the culprit behind the dimpled skin on your thighs and buttocks. Most people hate hat dimpled appearance of skin on these body parts and seek help from any which quarter. And this is what cosmetic companies cash on. Any cream, gel or patch that claims to work away the cellulite, diminish it or reduce its appearance can be called an “anti-cellulite treatment”.

How Do Anti-Cellulite Creams Work?

Some of these creams have aminophylline as the main ingredient. The new ones these days contain dimethylethanolamine, or DMAE. Some creams contain Retinol. Almost all cellulite treatments have some form of caffeine in them. What these products do is give a smoother appearance to the skin by draining the moisture. In effect the cream flushes out water from your skin to make it appear smoother and cellulite-free.

The instructions on the cream tell you that you should use it twice a day for at least 4 weeks, to start seeing results. What they don’t tell you is that results only “begin” to appear in one month. To actually get some tangible change in the appearance of cellulite on your butt or legs, you need to use the cream for at least six months. 6 months of using the cream twice a day can be quite expensive. Since most of these creams cost Rs. 250 or more, you are getting into a treatment that will cost you at least Rs. 3000 to see some effect.

Are Anti-Cellulite Creams Worth It?

Another fact that the marketing people or the instructions on the cream do not tell you is that any effect you see will vanish within a month or two after you stop using the treatment. So if you wish to use a cream for fighting cellulite, you might as well be prepared to use it lifelong!

The bottom-line is that there is no miracle cure for cellulite, no matter what cosmetic companies claim! If you wish to retain healthy and youthful looking skin, there are only three things that can help you:

• A healthy diet comprising lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.

• A regular exercise routine.

• Generous intake of water every day.

If you follow these mantras, you will never really need those anti-cellulite creams. Cheers to that!!!
