It’s not every day that a youth icon dies. Yes, Ishmeet Singh was a youth icon. Maybe he was not your classic “rags-to-riches” story. But he did represent a dream that almost all the youngsters in our country watch with open eyes – the dream of glamour and fame. Alas! All that is gone with him.

19 year old Ishmeet Singh was a resident of Ludhiana, Punjab. He was a nobody till Star Plus hosted the famous talent hunt show, Star Voice Of India. Ishmeet appeared on this show and became a “somebody” to reckon. Not just somebody, Ishmeet became the winner of the show and won both money and fame. We wonder if it is fair for God to bestow so much in one moment and then take it all away in the next!

Ishmeet was in Maldives, where he was supposed to perform at some Star event on 1st August. But he died on Tuesday, July 29th, in the hotel swimming pool. After the body of the young singer was brought to Ludhiana, it was immediately sent to Dayanand Medical College & Hospital for a post-mortem. Even though the post-mortem reports state that Ishmeet died due to drowning, the family of the deceased is not convinced. Here’s why…

• Ishmeet did not know how to swim. So what was he doing in the deep end of the hotel swimming pool?

• Injury mark have been found of the forehead and chest of his body.

• According to his family, someone had tried to kill him two weeks back also. While he was traveling in a car from Mumbai to Pune, a car suddenly came from the behind and hit his car on the side where he was sitting.

• The two eye-witnesses, Arunima & Vyom have been giving different versions of the incident to the police, media and Ishmeet’s family.

• Why was there no life-guard at the pool of the Chaaya Island Dhonveli Resort?

All these reasons and a few more are enough to raise suspicion in the minds of Ishmeet’s family and friends. Did he really die of drowning? Or was he hit and injured before being pushed into the water? Was his super success the reason he got killed? Did any of his fellow contestants hate him so much? Or was he considered a threat to the popular singers? Or is there another angle to the whole story?

Nothing we say or do can bring back Ishmeet Singh. All we can do is pray for his soul and send our condolences to his family in Ludhiana.
