Come winters, and we are all plagued with dry and itchy skin. Here are a few tips to help you with the problem of dry skin.
Every year, winters see a big surge in the sale of moisturizers and cold creams. The simple reason is that the cold air robs your skin of moisture. And you are not helping much by decreasing your water intake during the bleak months. Isn’t that what you are doing? Most people stop feeling thirsty at all during the winters. This means that you have to constantly remind yourself to drink a glassful. Dry skin, chapped lips and cracked heels! That is what most people associate with winters. But with a little care, you can have radiant, soft and supple skin all the year round. Here’s how…
• For your arms and legs, get a good quality body lotion. If you have a dry back, this should be helpful there too. The correct way of using this product is to massage it into the skin immediately after bathing. The idea is to lock in the moisture, so apply it while the skin is still damp.
• For a soft and supple facial skin, use a moisturizer every night. Again, wash your face with a non-drying face wash and follow with the moisturizing.
• Even though the sun doesn’t seem like ‘the enemy’ anymore, you still need protection. In fact, you need it now more than ever, because you will be spending quite some time soaking in the sunshine. So do not forget to wear a good sun screen every morning.
• Cracked heels can become very painful if you do not take proper care. Every night, wash your feet and apply Vaseline to them. Wear warm cotton or woolen socks immediately and sleep with the socks on every night. You will find the problem areas improving within 10-15 days. But this is a routine that should be followed even if you do not have cracked heels!
• Chapped lips are usually treated with chapsticks. But Vaseline works wonders with chapped lips. Just apply a little every night before going to bed. And you’ll never need a chapstick again!
• Drink plenty of water to re-hydrate the skin.
• Use a good hair conditioner after shampooing. Even if you have very long hair, shampoo and condition at least twice a week to avoid dandruff.
