This movie, inspired from a real life story of a real life hero, is a must watch for every who loves sports, movies, India or Shahrukh Khan.
Imagine a movie that excites, thrills, makes you cry, makes you laugh and above all makes you proud of the fact that you are an Indian and more importantly a woman! YES! Chak De is all this and more.
A bunch of nobodies described as fit only for Choola aur Belan against all odds become a world class team. The reviews that I have read have gone to town gushing about SRKs performance, the direction, the script and all that. But to me, while all that is important, what is more relevant is that the movie has hit bulls eye for women.
The movie is about this misunderstood and disgruntled coach who is given this supposed team of sixteen women from different backgrounds. The team is not even expected to make its presence felt, leave alone bringing home the womens hockey World Cup. Nobody believes that these young girls stand a chance of being able to get past the league matches. The rest of the story comprises of how the coach builds the team into a fighting unit, which overcomes the obstacles and difficulties in their path, bury their differences and unite for a common cause and bring the cup back home.
The lessons that I could learn from this movie are:
1. Believe in yourself In the movie, the team is shown taking on the boys team. The teams lack of self belief is evident, when one girl comments Dont ask whether we will lose, but ask by how many goals we will lose. When they are behind the boys by 3-0, the coach rallies them and they score two goals in the second half of the match. Once the team starts believing that they can fight, it is by sheer chance that the boys team wins this particular match.
2. Unite for a common cause The cause and the team is bigger than any player. The movie makes a strong point about overcoming individual differences and individual goals to come together and fight for the common goal. Any team will do well to remember this point. All of us have our strengths and weaknesses. It is when these strengths and weakness are combined with those of the other team members that a lethal unit is born.
3. Tit for Tat In one of the matches against Argentina, the rival team members are shown to play foul and dirty. Apna coach SRK tells his team to give it back to the rival team. For every injury they inflict on you, give them two injuries he tells them. This is important from the perspective that you can be good only to a certain point. When the game gets dirty, you got to get dirty to play the game.
But Chak De is not just lessons and serious game. Its the first time you see SRK without a romantic link up. And he still rocks!!! The movie is a treat to watch.
