Career Strategies For women (Part II)

So did you give any thought to the career strategies and tips we brought you in our first article in the series? Well, the tips keep getting better and more interesting as we move on to the next arena that you can work on. Improving certain skills is not only possible but also very useful in the long run. So here goes

Capitalise On Interpersonal And Communication Skills

Women are generally better off as compared to men when it comes to interpersonal skills. Women do communicate better and make strong team players. We are more customer savvy and also forge good relations with suppliers/vendors, subordinates, peers and superiors. Bole to apun ladies log: ladai kam, kaam zyaada! Why else do you think most companies prefer women customer service officers?

And these are the skills that are emerging as the most important aspects of employee performance after their technical expertise. Since we usually excel at communication and interpersonal skills, we only need to put them to our best possible use. This means exhibiting your skills at every possible opportunity and getting noticed for it.

Tapping Your Social Circle And Networking

This is one area where men are thorough professionals. With practice, we can also hone the networking skills. Networking ka kya hai? Golf khelne jaane ka, high profile ladies log ke saath lunch karne ka, social work ke bahaane powerful log se contact banana ka, and baad mein sab contacts use karne ka!!!

Research proves that men are more likely to network (and use for their benefit) with the people in power and position. On the other hand, women tend to socialize and network better with people across departments but at their own or subordinate levels. But if you wish to move ahead in life, the importance of networking, with the powers that be, cannot be emphasized enough.

An emerging trend is all-women networks. These are especially beneficial for women who wish to break the glass ceiling and help others do it too. With the added responsibilities of home and families, women cannot always network successfully. But since women understand each others needs and responsibilities, they network better with each other.

We will keep bringing more career tips for you. So hang in there and wait for our next in the series.
