UK is the No. 1 market for Bollywood films after India. Bollywood movies are almost as popular in the UK as our Tandoori delights. One of the reasons for this increasing popularity of Bollywood is that more and more movies are being made for the NRI audience. Film makers are also exploring themes woven around the British Indian diaspora. These movies are backed with sound financing, shooting in foreign locales and international production facilities. No wonder, these movies do exceedingly well in markets like the UK.

Of late, every year one or two Bollywood movies make it to the Top 10 list in the UK. But this year, 3 of our Bollywood movies have made it into the list “Om Shanti Om”, “Namaste London” & “Partner” have grossed more than 3 million pounds in box office collections last year. In the light of the current popularity that Bollywood enjoys in the UK, many DVD producers are also showing interest in showcasing Bollywood productions.

King Khan and Yash Raj Films started the whole ‘NRI movie’ revolution with their Dilwaale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. Bollywood has never looked back since then. The popularity of Bollywood in the UK also got a big boost with Shilpa Shetty’s stint in the house of Big Brother.

It’s not only in UK that people love Bollywood. We all saw the big welcome SRK recently got in Germany. USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are also increasingly showing interest in Bollywood. Many of our desi stars are being offered meaty roles in foreign productions. So, Bollywood has really really really arrived internationally. Hollywood, beware!
