They must be coz we did not see even a single female contestant on the Great Indian Laughter Challenge: Season 1&2. Perhaps, gossiping and bitching is our forte. And most women decided to stick to that. After all Jack of all trades and master of none would not suit us. And anyway, who wants to crack sexist jokes with sexual innuendoes and butter up the judges? Men suit the part better, dont they?
Here are a few reasons why men appear to be funnier than women:
Men seem to find indescribable humor in mentions of the female body, sex, reproduction etc. That is not so easy for us. In fact God made men and women such that women got all the pain related to these things while men got all the gain, and humor. Apni bewakoofi pe hasna is easy, apne pain pe hasna is difficult!
Men cannot stop making fun of their wives. But women, especially Indian women cannot tolerate to hear one bad word against their husbands. (Silly, arent we?) How can they make fun of them? Arre baba! Aisa thode hi na hota hai!!!
Men are basically goofy and foolish. So all they have to do is be their natural self to appear funny. But women are intrinsically much smarter. So its much more difficult to mask intelligence and appear goofy and funny. Humse nahi hota hai bewakoofi ka natak! Unko karne do jo bewakoof hain!
A funny and humorous man is considered attractive by women. This shows how appreciative we are of humor. But can our men take it? Na Na!. A funny and humorous woman is considered tomboyish and unladylike. If you wish to remain ladylike, you cut off most of the subjects to joke about!!!
Right from our childhood our moms go Kitni baar kaha hai zyada zor se mat hasa karo! Ladkiyaan aisa nahi karti! But our lucky brothers can do what they wanna do, laugh when they will, crack jokes when they might. Ladkon ki koi baat nahi!
Actually, I dont find anything humorous about the sexist jokes that these silly champs on TV crack. Im much more appreciative of intelligent humor. Dr. Tushaar is my all time fav from amongst the champs. I hope we get more of his kind of humor this season.
For women concerned with our absence on the stage, all this is going to change. Aarti Kandpal will be the first woman contestant on the Laughter Challenge in its third season. As a schoolgirl, Aarti specialized in mimicry and impersonations. Her parents sensed that Aarti had an exceptionally funny funny bone and encouraged her in her humorous pursuits. And the result will be there for all of us to see on May 18, 9 p.m., Star One.
