In a country where joint families live happily together in tiny apartments… there are people who need as many as six floors for parking alone!
Yes, we are talking about none other than the humungous house of Mukesh Ambani . The 27-storey glass-fronted building will be called Antilia after a mythological island. The house, which will have parking for 168 cars, three helipads and a theatre is being built on Altamount Road, Mumbai.
The construction is expected to be completed by next year. Let’s take a look at this titanic living space, being created for senior Ambani’s family (which of course includes a staff of 600 for its upkeep).
The house plan has been drawn by the firm Perkins+Will. A virtual glass palace, the house will have several entertainment centres, a health club, a swimming pool and various green spots thrown in for good measure.
Here are the basic (I repeat, basic) features of the bungalow (which are enough to make a world record in lavish living):
Twenty Seven Floors!
How many does your building have? Anyway, this is different, because the entire building is his house!
What’s more amusing is that the building will actually be as tall as a 60-story tower! This obviously means that each of the floors will have a ceiling that is much, much higher than an average flat’s ceiling.
Six Floors For Parking!
Today, more and more people are buying cars and feeling poorer day-by-day when they are not able to find parking for their poor, big cars. But Ambani has as many as six full floors taking care of the 168 foreign-return, non-living members of the Ambani family: ‘imported cars’!
A Floor For Car Maintenance!
Who has the time to go to a garage (and I am talking about Ambani’s drivers and not industrialist, himself!)? So, an entire floor has been dedicated to car servicing and maintenance. This in-house service centre will be set up on the seventh floor.
An Entire Floor to Entertain Them!
The eighth floor will be constantly at their service for entertainment with a mini theatre comprising a seating capacity of 50, along with various other activities!
Garden in Balconies
Everyone needs to go out and get some fresh air. For Ambanis, well, the fresh air, along with the entire garden, comes not just in the house, but in every balcony!
So, the rooftop of the mini-theatre will serve as a garden, and immediately above that, three more balconies with terrace gardens will be independent floors.
The 'Health' Floors
While the pampered lot enjoys extreme ease and comfort in their huge mansion, they can’t afford to loose their health to this laziness. Two floors have been assigned the duty to take care of the Ambani family. One of these will have facilities for athletics and a swimming pool, while the other will have a health club complete with the latest gym equipment.
Guest ‘Apartments’!
Where we have an ‘apartment’, Ambani’s have a ‘building’, so where we have a ‘room’ they are bound to have an ‘apartment’. These are the two-storied glass-fronted guest apartments for the family's guests.
The Family’s Domicile!
Here’s where Mukesh, his wife Neeta, their three children and Mukesh's mother Kokilaben will live… on the top four floors. These floors give way to a mesmerizing view of the Arabian Sea and a superb view of the city's skyline.
Helipad
As if the century of imported cars is not enough to transport the family of 6, there will be three helipads on the terrace!
The site on which this magnanimous house is being built is a little over 4500 square metres in area! It was purchased by Mukesh Ambani in 2002 and now the prices in the area have soared to Rs.75,000 per square feet!
Wow! Talk about a BIG LIFE!
