This was not entirely unexpected and so it has happened. 'Barfi' has been chosen to represent India at the Oscars under the Foreign Language Film Category. The Oscars which will be held in Feb next year are the most respected movie awards across the world and movie directors globally compete amongst each other to win an Oscar.
'Barfi' which has Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ilena D'Cruz in pivotal roles traces the journey of a young man who cannot hear and talk and his escapades in the lush green hills of Darjeeling. Equally important is the role of Jhilmil a young autistic girl played with aplomb by Priyanka Chopra. The third piece of this love triangle is played by the pretty Ilena D'Cruz who has acted before in South Indian movies, but 'Barfi' is her first Bollywood outing.
However, the entire credit for the acclaim this movie is getting goes to the director Anurag Basu who has been able to translate his vision on the big screen with such conviction and has been able to extract such performances from his lead cast. Kudos to the 'Barfi' team and we hope that the sweetness is savoured by the Oscar jury as well!
