If you thought that the movie 'Heroine' is going to be different from director Madhur Bhandarkar's previous movies, then you could not be more wrong! 'Heroine' is like any other Madhur Bhandarkar movie - Only, it's worse! Completely devoid of a coherent script and lacking in imagination, the movie does not attempt to rise beyond the superficial world of Bollywood. If there were any comparisons with 'The Dirty Picture', they are completely misguided. 'The Dirty Picture' was a class apart! And Madhur's 'Fashion' was far better in terms of scripting and performances as well! Priyanka had won a National Award for her role in 'Fashion', remember!
Kareena who plays Mahi Arora - the protagonist is a top actor in Bollywood and wants to be the No. 1. Except that in the bad mad world of Bollywood, there are others waiting to clip your wings. So it happens with Mahi that her rivals and co-stars play dirty. It only helps that Mahi is high strung and an alcoholic person diagonised with bi-polar syndrome. The movie traces Mahi's journey from the top to her descent and her fight to reach the top only to realise that her happiness lies in annonimity!
The script is saddled with the usual Madhur cliches! Gay designers, Page 3 parties, the bitchy and bad world of fashion & glamour, their fast lifestyle, their multiple relationships. You name it and he has thrown it in! Kareena does not have to really do much apart from wasting a lot of glycerine and shrieking at the top of her voice. Randeep is wasted in the role of a cricketer and Arjun plays the supporting role of a superstar cad! The music is nothing to write about except for 'Halkat Jawani'. All in all, if you do not want your precious money and time to be wasted, this 'Heroine' can be given a miss!
