India has finally opened its medal account at the London Olympics 2012 with a bronze in shooting. Gagan Narang won the Bronze in men's 10 m air rifle event yesterday. India's defending Olympic champion Abhinav Bindra crashed out in the preliminary round this year at a sorry position of 16 in the 47, bringing down all hopes of a medal from the ace shooter.

Narang, an Air India employee, shot 103.1 in the nail-bitting 10-shot final for an aggregate of 701.1 after scoring 598 in the qualifying round in which also he finished third. Sports Minster Ajay Maken has congratulated Gagan for this win, and has announced that Gagan will get a job in the A group at Sports Authority of India, which will be at par with an IAS officer. In fact all the Olympians will get a job at SAI, irrespective of winning or losing at the Games.
