Lagaan has scored big as one of the top all-time 25 best sports movies compiled by Time magazine. Lagaan which was released in the year 2001 was written and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and starred Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan. Aamir also happened to be the producer of the film. It also featured Gracy Singh as the lead actress opposite Aamir.
"From the thunderclap in the first torrential rainstorm a cue for riotous dancing to the climactic sunlight on the smiling faces of millions of viewers, this Bollywood epic is cause for joy of meteorological proportions," the magazine says, calling the film "the longest and most enthralling underdog-sports movie ever".
The film which was made on a budget of Rs. 25 crore grossed over Rs. 55 crores at the box office and was even nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. In the year 2010, the film was ranked #55 in Empire magazines' "The 100 Best films Of World Cinema".
