There are so many women who spend their life "on a diet". These women are forever dieting, yet they are fat. Why? The simple answer is that the diets are not working. But it is simple mathematics really. If the number of calories you consume is less than the number of calories you burn, you gotta lose. Right? So why do diets fail? It's because we all cheat, often without even realizing it. We do so by overeating. Most people do not know that they tend to overeat. Here are 5 reasons why you may be overeating:
Eating Too Fast: Do you eat too fast when you are hungry? It takes 15-20 minutes for the brain to tell your body that you have had enough. If you gobble up everything quickly, chances are that you won't know when you should stop and will overeat.
Emotional Eating: We often deal with hurt feelings and emotional disturbances by eating. It seems the right thing to do when we watch actresses eating ice-cream and chocolates after being dumped in the movies. But emotional eating is no way to deal with problems.
Bigger Plates: The feeling of satiation starts from the eyes. When you serve yourself a plate of food, your eyes tell you before you start eating whether or not the food on the plate is enough.
So if you have a bigger plate, chances are that you will pile on more food and will overeat.
Distracted Eating: If you eat while watching the Television or while working at your desk, you will not realize when you have had enough. Distracted eating often leads to overeating.
Food Within Reach: If you shop for the weekly supplies and keep a few bags of munchies on your desk (or a bag of candy), you will definitely polish it off within a day. But if you keep most of the food out of sight (in a drawer or kitchen cupboards), the same bags of munchies and candy will last longer.
Starvation: Going without food for a long duration of time makes you so hungry that you don't know when to stop once you start eating. In such a situation, people tend to eat far more than their stomach can store. This is one reason why dieting/starvation leads to stomach ailments like gas, bloating and acidity.
Take care of these things and you shall see a definite change in the success of your dieting efforts. Even if you don't need to lose weight, these basic principles of eating should be still taken care of.
