“They came, they saw, they conquered!”
This is the only thing that can be said about Danny Boyle’s “Slumdog Millionaire”. After making a clean sweep at the “Critics Choice Awards” and “Golden Globe Awards”, the film is all set to create more history.
Slumdog millionaire has been nominated for 11 “BAFTA Awards” and 10 “Academy Awards”. This is the first time that a film with Indian background has won so many nominations.
Musician A.R. Rahman has managed to get 3 nominations at the Oscars this year. He is nominated for the “Best Original Score” and 2 of his songs have been nominated for the “Best Original Song” category. This is a first for the Indian music industry. Apart from the 3 nominations won by A.R. Rahman, the film is also nominated in the “Best Picture” category, “Best Director” category and a handful of other technical categories.
After being nominated in 10 categories at the “Oscar Awards” this year, it is expected that Slumdog Millionaire will definitely win a couple of those golden statuettes.
On the other hand, India’s official entry to the Oscars, Aamir Khan’s “Taare Zameen Par” got thrown out of the rat race for Oscar nominations pretty early on. While fans are really disappointed for this, Slumdog Millionaire has brought much cheer to the fans of Bollywood.
In Anil Kapoor’s words, “As a matter of fact when Danny Boyle went on stage, that's what he said that it's the correct fusion of Bollywood and Hollywood come together. It's about this underdog who goes and becomes a millionaire and gets his childhood sweetheart and I think we all who are connected with this film are underdogs and suddenly we've got this recognition all over the world.”
Well, Mr. Anil Kapoor may modestly call himself an underdog, but we all know that neither is he an underdog, nor is this film an underdog. The film has released in India today. Let us see if the film does as well in India as it is doing internationally.
Good Luck to the cast and crew of the film!
